Freo Permies

Who is the Fremantle Permaculture group?

Fremantle Permaculture group is for any interested permies and alternative minded folk South of the river, who like to get together and learn about all things permaculture and sustainable, plus have fun doing it! You don’t have to be a trained permaculturist to attend!

What are we up to?

Already we’ve had a talk on straw bale building and are planning a huge next season of workshops to inspire including aquaponics and mushroom growing! We’ve had meetings with other local community garden crew to see how we can work together to improve local food security and increase the knowledge and skills in our community. We also have a seedling nursery co-operative and permaculture demonstration garden at a local senior high school, which is attached to our local seed saving network, and on top of all of this, we launched Permablitz in March 2011!!

How to get involved?

Freo Permies group meets at 6:30pm on the last Tuesday evening of the month, and to keep it interesting we meet at each others houses to spur each other along with our own garden projects. It doesn’t cost anything to come along, just bring a smile and a few nibbles to share and you’ll be well on your way to maximising the yields of all your projects!

If you’d like to improve your gardening skills or to get involved in project Locavore (the seedling nursery, seed bank and garden) you can volunteer with us at the South Fremantle High School nursery every tuesday morning from 9am – 12:30pm. Just give us a heads up if you’re on your way as it can sometimes be hard to find us!

Seed saving is another great way to get involved in what we are up to, you can sign up online at and become a member of our local seed bank, it doesn’t cost you anything but a commitment to seed saving and helping the communal bank grow is encouraged. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any enquiries.

We are still looking for great people like you to help us design for Permablitz and share their skills and knowledge with some likeminded folk, and no contribution is too small or too big! No backyard (or front yard) is too big a project either, you only need to attend 3 blitz’s to qualify for your own!
