Western Australia is home to an immense quantity of diverse wildlife species unique to this place. Many of us enjoy observation and interaction with our wildlife, birds in particular. For some people, like Simon Cherriman, the observation and study go further into discovering a deeper interconnectedness of humans and our native wildlife. Simon is so passionate about our Australian wildlife and the environment that he wants to inspire and engage everyone through his films, photography, projects, stories, talks and books.

Join us on an evening webinar where Simon presents:

  • the importance of tree-hollows for a range of wildlife species in south-west WA
  • the impact of landscape-scale habitat loss on these species
  • advice on what can landowners do to help and benefit from wildlife in their area
  • building and installing nest-boxes.

Simon has recently published his first book on this topic so, as well as giving previews of the book’s content, he will direct people to where they can purchase copies ($45).

Simon is a naturally engaging educator and can relate well to young children and all ages. He has presented similar topics for ages 6 yrs to 96 yrs old. It would be wonderful to have kids and all diverse age attendees for this webinar so please invite them along.

About Simon Cherriman

Simon is an award-winning environmental scientist, educator and wildlife filmmaker and an enthusiastic advocate for the unique Australian bush and its creatures. Simon grew up in the Perth Hills and spent his childhood climbing trees, observing birds and learning firsthand about the local environment.

It was at 15 that he found a giant Wedge-tailed Eagle nest and this captivated and inspired him to spend more than half his life studying, photographing and filming these magnificent birds, incorporating eagles into much of his tertiary education. Currently Simon continues to spread his passion for the environment through his small business, iNSiGHT Ornithology, which specialises in bird-related research and environmental education, and he is currently undertaking PhD research on Wedge-tailed Eagle population dynamics and movement ecology at Murdoch University.
