2016 Permaculture Fest for PermacultureWest
Permaculture Fest will showcase best practice in sustainable living and demonstrate how permaculture (permanent ecology and permanent culture) based thinking and action naturally leads towards a healthy and more importantly regenerative future.
Well-known permaculture teachers and authors David Holmgren, Robin Clayfield, and Graham Bell will hold talks and interactive sessions at the Festival.
Prominent West Australian identities including ABC Gardening presenter and author, Josh Byrne, Ecoburbia and Living Smart presenter, Shani Graham, and Sash Milne from Project Bunbury will also share their stories. Interstate artist and designer April Sampson-Kelly will teach people how to draw and design, and local foodies will hold workshops on food fermentation, compost-making and growing your own food.
This is a full day event welcoming anyone wanting to get more out of life. Grab this opportunity to walk, talk, eat, play, and learn about sustainable living with all of Perth’s community groups in one place!
There will be farmer’s market type stalls; children’s nature plays area / activities; waste and reuse education; recycling and re-skilling; urban agriculture; farm diversification; solar passive home design, forgotten crafts and trades being demonstrated and on sale; music; and entertainment, and much more.
“We (PermacultureWest) wanted to hold this Festival to celebrate the great work community groups are doing every day in WA…said Charles Otway, …..”it is rare that an event is community run and all about the people and not company profits”
Still wondering what the Permaculture in Permaculture Fest is? Just head ‘Down the Permaculture Path’ at the Festival, and you will find all the answers you are looking for.
The festival will close with the infectious, funky sounds of Formidable Vegetable Sound System. Led by charismatic hitchhiker extraordinaire and Permaculturalist, Charlie McGee, the band has recently toured the UK, New Zealand and Australia and is sure to get the crowd jumping.
This event is a plastic free and smoking free event, we will be composting the waste so while we encourage people to bring a picnic, please leave your plastic and non recyclables at home. Even better, bring a cup, plate and some cloth bags for a chance to win one of the many eco awards for people embracing the earth care, people care, and surplus share ethics.
The Permaculture Fest will be on Sunday 2 October at Swan Valley Adventure Centre, Yule Road, Middle Swan, about five minutes from Midland train station and about 40 minutes from the Perth CBD.
